Ageless Artistry

Admire the Art Deco splendor of a Marysville crown jewel. The 250-seat Avalon Theatre, which opened in 1936 as one of the finest, most modern theaters in Ohio, has been restored to its original luster and sets the stage for movies, theater performances, concerts, and community-based events.

Don’t miss the trio of larger-than-life murals chronicling people and events in the town’s history: The cheerful “All Ohio Balloon Festival” mural depicts the colorful spheres flying over Marysville with passengers that include festival founders Jack Scott and John Feenstra — and Darth Vader coming along for the ride. Additional scenes celebrate other notables, including Col. Noah Orr, who was born in Union County in 1836 and toured the country as a circus performer known for his 7-foot-8-inch height and 500-pound heft; and Reuben Partridge, who is commemorated for his work in designing and building hundreds of bridges in central Ohio. Four of his bridges can still be seen throughout the Union County countryside.

Palate Pleasers

Enjoy craft beer from Ohio brewers and a burger or entrée ranging from hot honey chicken to the local favorite PBB & J burger at The Half Pint. The kids can indulge in sliders and grilled cheese. Leon’s Garage lives up to its claim as the place for “great beer, great friends, and great food.” Located in a nostalgia-filled former garage reminiscent of the classic automotive service centers of the ’30s, ’40s, and ’50s, the eatery also hosts performances by bands from around the country on weekends. House of Spirits, a magnificent Victorian home listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is famous for special curated cocktails and a diverse selection of bourbon and whiskey. Wash down gourmet sandwiches with one of the many craft beers at Homestead Taproom and Kitchen.
