Holiday Happenings

As we are rounding the corner into the holiday season, it is important that you stay up to date on all of the holiday activities occurring throughout Union County; before we know it, we will be hearing Christmas music on every radio station. There are a number of wonderful annual activities that you and your family can participate in this holiday season – actively participating in local holiday activities is a great way to create lasting memories for you and your family.

One of my personal holiday favorites, the Marysville Christmas Parade, will be on Sunday December 1st from 2 to 3 p.m. The parade will include local high school bands playing traditional festive music and merry floats highlighting local businesses and community groups. Many of the floats throw out candy and other goodies; one year, I even caught a Christmas Teddy Bear that was thrown from one of the floats! The parade would not be complete without a visit from Mr. Claus himself, who will officially mark the start of the holiday season. Grab your elf hat and get into the Christmas spirit by coming to this awesome event!

Following the parade, the annual Christmas Walk and Tree Lighting will be on Monday December 2nd from 5 to 8 p.m. Many local shops will be decorated for the season (some will even have special treats for you!) and community restaurants will be open late for you to enjoy. This provides the perfect opportunity to start a little Christmas shopping from local businesses while everyone is in a festive mood. There will also be live music from some favorite local bands. The night will end with the magical Tree Lighting at Partners Park and a visit from Santa and some of his reindeer.

There will be two events in Plain City occurring on Saturday December 7th – the Holiday Gathering and Christmas Under the Clock. The Holiday Gathering is a pop-up event that will be hosted by the Round Barn Vintage & Made Market, which is a Lancaster business that brings together their favorite vendors from the Midwest and will be set up inside the Plain City Auction House. This intimate holiday shopping opportunity will not only allow you to work on your holiday shopping list, but it also offers you the chance to interact with some of the best and most unique artisans in the region. The event will last from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and tickets are $5 at the door.

Christmas Under the Clock is truly a county favorite; kick off the holiday season with this fun-filled and spirited event presented by the Uptown Plain City Organization. This community event is perfect for the whole family, with a Tree Lighting and visit from Santa, followed by the opportunity to visit local businesses along Main and Jefferson who are opening their doors to participate in the festivities. There will be ice sculpting, live music and wagon rides. The event starts off with the Tree Lighting at 5 p.m. and all other activities will conclude at 8 p.m. I look forward to seeing you there!

If you live in one of the northern communities in Union County, the Richwood Christmas Parade will also take place on December 7th at 4 p.m. Bring the whole family to this festive event!

Finally, I would encourage you all to participate in this year’s Care Train, either by providing a donation or participating in the auction. This wonderful fundraiser works to provide food and gifts to families, children and elderly who may be struggling this holiday season. The auction will take place on December 14th beginning at 9 a.m.

With many fun-filled and merry activities throughout the county during the month of December, I hope to see you and your family enjoying this year’s festivities.
