There is perhaps no better way to usher in a summer weekend than Friday Nights Uptown in Marysville. Located in Partners Park, these free events take on a block party-like atmosphere, complete with popular live musical acts, food vendors, children's activities and a host of community organizations. Although it's been voted Union County's favorite date night for several years in a row, Friday Nights Uptown has something for every member of the family.
Friday Nights Uptown takes place from 6 to 10 p.m. and each event features a different theme. Here's what you can expect for the remainder of the summer.
Wine & Jazz Fest – June 9
Swing's the Thing, a 16-piece big band, will perform a wide variety of hits from new artists as well as popular big band music from legends like Count Basie, Glenn Miller and Duke Ellington. Be prepared to dance the night away!
In addition to the usual downtown stores and restaurants, the following local wineries will be on hand: Bokes Creek Winery, Dalton Union Winery, Camelot Cellars Winery, St. Ives Winery and Eldchrist Winery. Tickets can be purchased for samples or a full pour, and include a take-home reusable wine tote.
While you're enjoying a glass of wine under the stars, the kids will be entertained with a bounce house, sponsored by Living Hope Church and Marysville Church of the Nazarene.
Rock the Block Fest – July 14
Be ready to rock out to the sounds of McGuffey Lane, Central Ohio's favorite American country rock band.
At the same time, you can help a good cause by participating in the Marysville Ride for Kids, hosted by the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. It all begins on Friday night with a 5K Run 4 Kids fundraiser to benefit kids with pediatric brain tumors. On Saturday morning, the fundraising continues with an hour-long motorcycle ride that includes more than 100 bikes, complete with a police escort. The ride starts and ends at Partners Park.
Feeling artistic? Put your talents to the test by participating in Chalk the Block, a sidewalk art competition sponsored by the Marysville Art League. This year marks the fifth year of this popular free event, which takes place during the Rock the Block Fest from 4 to 8 p.m. and will feature professional chalk artist Hilary Fambres. Prizes will be awarded by age groups.
Blues & Brews Fest – August 18
"Whether it's haunting blues, straightforward rock, raw garage band noise or psychedelic fusion, Willie Phoenix delivers," according to the artist's website. Be ready to hear it all on August 18 when Phoenix headlines the last Friday Nights Uptown of the 2017 season. Local brews will be available on tap.
In addition to the music, the Founders Day Car Show rounds things out with a lineup of old-time automobiles in the streets of Marysville. Sponsored by the Mid Ohio Cruisers, this event provides an up-close look at these vehicles of yesteryear.
Partners Park is located at 125 E. Sixth Street in Marysville, Ohio. For more information about these events, visit marysvilleohio.org.
